Abstract
In spite of the large numbers of grant-seeking foundations in existence, no substantial research has been carried out that would focus on this type of foundation. Grant-seeking foundations are sometimes mentioned in passing in general discussions of foundation types, but they do not appear as a separate entity in statistical surveys, nor have they been subjected to mapping or research. Very little is known about this set of foundations as a result, and so a student of the phenomenon has to rely on anecdotal evidence scattered in a handful of articles and on brief mentions in instruction manuals for foundation trustees and managers.
