Abstract

Professionals notice an extremely insufficient level of childrens rights and needs provision in Roma community and the same time non-efficient strategies of intervention with Romani families. Their approaches towards family assessment are based on the traditional Western concept of parenting as well as stereotypes about Romani families and Romani culture. These two sources of professional opinion stipulate strengthening of prejudices both concerning the parenting in general and Romani parents in particular. The essential elements of specialists position are as follows: an assurance that the parents are key responsible people for child welfare, and a conviction that Romani parents do not have required competencies and potential for child development. As a result, considerable part of helping professionals demonstrates -deadlock- viewpoint on possibility to involve Romani community into inclusion of their children.

Abstract (in Czech)

Profesionálové referují o velmi nedostatečné úrovni práv a naplnění potřeb dětí v romské komunitě a zároveň upozorňují na neefektivní strategie svých intervencí v romských rodinách. Jejich přístupy k posouzení rodiny jsou založeny na tradičním západním pojetí rodičovství, z něhož vychází i stereotypy o romských rodinách a romské kultuře. Tyto dva zdroje odborných stanovisek posilují předsudky ve vztahu k rodičovství obecně, zvláště pak pokud jde o romské rodiče. Podstatné prvky pozice zkoumaných specialistů jsou následující: (*) představa, že rodiče jsou zodpovědní za péči o děti, (b) přesvědčení, že romští rodiče nemají potřebné kompetence a potenciál pro podporu rozvoje dítěte. V důsledku toho značná část odborníků vstupuje do slepé uličky a nevidí možnost efektivního zapojení romské komunity do sociálního začlenění jejich dětí.
