Abstract
This work is focused on Ralstonia solanacearum lectin RS20L. R. solanacearum is a plant bacterial pathogen, which is responsible for wilt disease in many economically important crops such as banana, tobacco, potatoes, peppers, etc., leading to agricultural losses and famine. The RS20L lectin displays no sequence similarity to any known amino acid sequence. Functional analysis could contribute to understanding of different specificity of Ralstonia solanacearum lectins and help to describe virulence potential of this plant pathogen. Revealing saccharide specificity and mechanism of lectin recognition could serve as a starting point in designing sugar analogs or other efficient inhibitors that avoid bacterial adherence to host cell. Experimental attempts of lectin functional characterization follow up the molecular modelling studies [1] that gave us a theoretical background in generating several hypotheses during the experimental investigation of the lectin’s function.
Abstract (in Czech)
Práce se zabývá lektinem RS20L z fytopatogenu Ralstonia solanacearum. Lektin nevykazuje žádnou sekvenční podobnost na aminokyselinové ani nukleotidové úrovni. Funkční studie vazebných vlastností lektinu by mohly pomoci k pochopení specifity lektinu a popisu virulentního potenciálu tohoto patogenu. Experimentální studie vycházejí z výsledků metod molekulového modelování.
