In the presented paper, the authors examine the assumption that Martianus was not only a mediator of "septem artes liberales" to the Middle Ages in his great encyclopedy De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii, but perhaps also a mediator between the Roman and Vandal worlds, that De nuptiis was written later than it is traditionally acknowledged: in Vandals' Carthago. To be able to prove this assumption, we reexamine several sources of dating the work and consider whether the shift in dating can give us the reason to believe that Martianus wrote his work intentionally for Vandals, and thus to explain some exceptional features of the plot.

V příspěvku autorky analyzují hypotézu, že Martianus nebyl svým encyklopedickým dílem De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii jen zprostředkovatelem modelu sedmi svobodných umění středověku, ale i prostředníkem mezi světem Římanů a Vandalů, že dílo vzniklo později, než se tradičně předpokládá: ve vandalském Kartágu. Na základě výsledků tohoto zkoumání bychom chtěly posoudit, zda s posunem datace nesouvisí možnost, že by dílo mohlo být určeno pro Vandaly, a vysvětlit tak mnohé zvláštní rysy díla.
