Abstract
Though pathophysiology of PHH is more complicated and TGF-beta1 is not the only one to play a role in it, we have documented in our study that TGF-beta1 level in CSF collected in the beginning of temporary treatment of PHH correlates with failure of CSF resorption. In our study, in 62.5% of patients with proof of obstruction, hyporesorptive component was present. Overall, ETV success rate in therapy of obstructive PHH 37.5% in our study. We have proven that premature newborns with lower TGF-beta1 level and proof of obstructive HDC on MRI have significantly higer success rate of endoscopic treatment. In our study, ETV success rate was 100% in this group. Our results show that TGF-beta1 may influence succes rate of ETV in treatment of PHH, and based on its levels, it is possible to choose patients with purely obstructive hydrocephalus.
