TY - JOUR ID - 923993 AU - Pinkas, Jiří - Ostřížek, Petr - Zbořil, Radek - Bezdička, Petr PY - 2010 TI - Product control in sonochemical synthesis of metal oxides PB - National Technical University of Athens CY - Řecko KW - Sonochemistry, iron, cobalt, yttrium, oxides, ferrite, perovskite, garnet, nanoparticles N2 - Sonolysis of 2,4-pentanedionato complexes, M(acac)3, M = Fe, Y, Co; in tetraglyme under Ar provides nanoscopic particles of Fe2O3, Y2O3, and Co3O4. Controlled thermal treatment of the amorphous sonolytical products allows the crystallization of different polymorphs of Fe2O3, maghemite and hematite, and also Fe3O4 magnetite. Sonochemical reactions of the stoichiometric mixtures of different M(acac)3 complexes led also to amorphous nanoscopic particles. The resulting phase composition of the mixed metal oxides can be controlled by the starting stoichiometry of the precursor complexes. The reactions of Y(acac)3 and Fe(acac)3 carried out in a 1:1 molar ratio led after crystallization to perovskite YFeO3 while Y3Fe5O12 garnet was formed when a 3:5 molar ratio was employed. On the other hand, the stoichiometry controlled reactions of Co(acac)2, Co(acac)3, and Fe(acac)3 allowed to synthesize pure spinel phases of CoFe2O4 for the Co to Fe ratios between 1 : 1.3 and 1 : 2.0. All obtained nanoscopic materials were characterized by elemental analysis with ICP-OES, nitrogen isotherms, IR spectroscopy, SEM and TEM images, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Thermal behavior was studied by TG/DSC analysis and HT XRD. ER -
