Abstract

Monografie předkládá první ucelenou analýzu pragmatismu v českém jazyce a konstituuje ji na pozadí paralel nacházených mezi tímto hnutím, hermeneutikou a dekonstrukcí. Autoři mapují pragmatistické hnutí od jejich původních inspirátorů (Edwards, Emerson, členové Metafyzického klubu) přes analýzu děl klasických pragmatistů - Peirce, Jamese, Meada a Deweyho - až k jeho současným podobám. Protože se dnes pragmatismus vyvinul do mnoha rozličných verzí, autoři explikovali díla tak různých autorů, jakými byli Hacking, Bloom, Rorty a Shusterman a kteří různými způsoby přesahují hranice pragmatismu, aby naznačili prostor, v němž se současný pragmatismus vyvíjí. Na základě celé této studie autoři ukazují, jak široké je pole témat, na kterém pragmatismus působí, a o jak myšlenkově bohaté hnutí se jedná.

Abstract (in English)

The main purpose of the monograph is to present and analyze the tradition of American pragmatism with special regard to possible parallels between pragmatism hermeneutics and deconstruction. The authors map the American pragmatist movement from its very beginnings (first American philosophers like Edwards, Emerson, Metaphysical Club etc.), through the times of Peirce, James, Mead, and Dewey till the most recent trends. Since pragmatism in its contemporary form has evolved into many different schools of thought, the authors chose Harold Bloom, Ian Hacking, Richard Rorty, and Richard Shusterman to present the most significant ones. On this background it is shown how broad scope of issues pragmatism is able to deal with and how rich intellectual movement it actually is.
