Abstract
A long time held opinion that the GUI can hardly be protected even by the traditional copyright under the Copyright directive, since it is not an expression in an objectively perceivable form, but rather a functional effect, has been shaken by the CJEU and seems to be outdated. The CJEU has clearly expressed that the GUI should be eligible to the copyright protection if it meets the originality criterion as any other literary, artistic or scientific work.
