Abstract
This paper is focused on positive economic incentives for environmental protection, particularly on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources which should be in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. Firstly, functions and types of economic incentives for environmental protection are described. Next, legislation on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (which follows the Directives of the European Union) is analyzed; approaches to its amendments in the Czech Republic and Germany are compared. Finally, relevant problems are discussed in addition to their possible solutions.
