Abstract
Recently, the search for phosphors emitting in the different ranges has stimulated growing interest in lanthanide-doped crystalline materials, glasses and thin films. Particularly, research on garnet structure compounds is significant due to its increasing demand in various fluorescent devices, colour displays, temperature sensors and LED's. The luminescence signal from trivalent lanthanide doped materials provides characteristic lines determined by the electronic structure of the energy levels of rare earth element. However, the width and relative intensities of these lines are frequently affected by the nature of the host matrix.
