Abstract

Sympozium je věnované čtyřicátému výročí výstavy Software, Information Technology: Its New Meaning for Art (New York 1970 - 1971). Kurátor, přední teoretik umění nových médií Jack Burnham, ji koncipoval jako jednu velkou instalaci - systém, v rámci kterého jsou návštěvníci vedeni k hledání analogií a paralel mezi nejnovějšími systémy využívajícími pokročilé informační technologie a konceptuálním uměním. Burnhamova vize se stala znovu aktuální v poslední době, kdy se formuje nová podoba studií nových digitálních médií, která propojuje znalost funkčních vlastností programovatelných médií pracujících v reálném čase s poznáním a metodami společenských a humanitních věd. Tato nová platforma teorie nových digitálních médií se formuje pod označením softwarová studia.

Abstract (in English)

The symposium is dedicated to the forty years anniversary of the exhibition Software: Information Technology Its New Meaning for Art (New York 1970-1971). The curator, the prominent media art theoretician, Jack Burnham conceived it as one big installation – system within which the visitors are encouraged to find out analogies and parallels between the newest systems of information technologies and conceptual art. The Burnham vision of art practice and information technologies as a one system became currant again in the last years when the new discipline Software studies is emerging within humanities as a new platform for research focusing on software as a cultural product and phenomenon.
