Pozorované efekty způsobovala neznámá sloučenina cyanobakteriálního původu. Nádorově promoční aktivita sinicového extraktu byla úplně odstraněna ozonizací, což přináší důležité informace pro hledání účinných strategií pro eliminaci sinicových nádorových promoterů při přípravě pitné vody.
