Abstract
The paper analyzes newspaper articles on natural catastrophes published in Western English-speaking countries. It reveals that the newspaper discourse reproduces nature-culture dualism by portraying nature as people's enemy. Newspaper articles subvert the domination of man over nature encoded in Western enlightenment ideology by depicting the natural phenomenon as an uncontrollable monster.
