Abstract

Vstupujeme do nového období, kdy v léčbě karcinomů hlavy a krku se stávají dostupnými nové látky, nové léčebné postupy, nové chirurgické a radiační technologie a nové prognostické faktory, které umožňují lepší formulaci léčby pro individuálního pacienta. V tomto období multidisciplinárního přístupu léčby každého pacienta s karcinomem hlavy a krku je role klinického onkologa při rozhodování a plánování léčby naprostým standardem. Současná léčba karcinomů hlavy a krku se vyznačuje zvyšujícím se procentem vyléčených. Jsou předloženy informace o současné situaci integrace chemoterapie a cílené terapie do multimodální léčby karcinomů hlavy a krku.

Abstract (in English)

We are entering a new period in the treatment of head and neck cancers, during which new therapeutic agents, new paradigms of treatment, new surgical and radiation technology and new prognostic factors are rapidly becoming available. In this period of multidisciplinary approach for each head and neck cancer patient the crucial role of clinical oncologist at the start of the decision-making and treatment-planning process is the absolute standard. Treatment of head and neck cancers is associated with increasing numbers of fully cured patients, improved preservation of organ functionality and improved survival rates. The up-to-date situation regarding integration of chemotherapy and targeted therapy into multimodality treatment of head and neck cancer is discussed in the article.
