Arctic legal system is one of the best theoretical and
practical case studies of the international law for the
non-states territories. It is based on a framework of the
broader general binding regulation of the international law
like UNCLOS or the international environmental law treaties,
but it is not sufficient nowadays. The current Arctic confronts
many fast changes in its ecosystem, environment and society and
these changes need to be reflected in the future working Arctic
legal system which should stand on new-developing flexible
multilevel governance of international and regional
co-operation and soft law instruments.
