This diploma thesis analyses whether bikesharing in selected
metropolitan areas depends on the attractiveness of the
selected location as a tourist destination or whether
bikesharing works as a common mean of transport used by the
local population or whether it is a combination of both. The
countries Spain, Italy and France have been selected for the
analysis of this relationship, and their combination is quite
deliberate due to their similar geographical aspects and level
of tourism visitation. Bikesharing has enjoyed a huge boom
worldwide in recent years and it should therefore be identified
what determinants most influence this mode of transport.
