The aim of my bachelor’s thesis was to capture and map the
topic of foster care and analyse the experience of single
foster mothers. I explored the topic of family, its function
and dysfunction, substitute family care and I also discussed
institutional care. I described in detail foster care - its
types and mediation and the rights and duties of a foster
parent. I also dealt with topics such as single parenting,
disabled children and children’s illnesses, experienced by
respondents of my questionnaire.
To collect my results I used IPA method to explore in detail
and interpret real experience of single mothers with foster
care. I characterised constitutive research problems,
methodology, criteria for selection of respondents, data
collection and the ethics of the research. I also described the
analysis used for interpretation of the research interviews.
The results of my research shed a light on the experience of
single foster mothers.
