This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the creation and
implementation of a thematic project for preschool-aged
children. The main objective of the thesis is to identify and
present an appropriate method for fostering the development of
spatial orientation in preschool children.  The main re-search
question is: How can we support the development of spatial
orienta-tion in preschool children through stories from around
the world? To this end, seven original stories from around the
world were created. Following this, specific research questions
were formulated: What characteristics should original stories
from different continents have that are suitable for
preschool-aged children, and which, through animal
protagonists, introduce children to the natural conditions and
diversity of our world? And also, are preschool-aged children
capable of working with a map?
The theoretical section defines the specifics of preschool
education and the importance of read stories in a child’s
development. Particular em-phasis is placed on the development
of spatial orientation, which is impor-tant for future school
success, and on the basics of working with maps in a preschool
setting.
The practical section focuses on the research. It includes one
selec-ted story created for preschool-aged children. Through
this story and ac-companying activities focused on spatial
orientation and working with maps, the development of selected
children in this area is monitored, as well as their learning
of a basic understanding of the world. The research also
includes an interview with the children’s teacher.
