There has been given a large amount of publicity to the relation between Christianity and environmental ethic, because one group of environmental oriented authors sees values in Christinity which could have positive environmental connections. Above all, it is not adherence to material values which implies a possibility of environmentally friendly way of living in modesty. On the other hand, Christianity has been critisised for its anthropocentrism and its accent on superordination of the mankind over the nature. In this thesis I would like to present a position of the pope Benedict XVI. and some Czech catholic priests. I show on their positions, that contemporary Catholic church declares more than superordination and it is interested in protection of creation more and more. Many environmentalists see. a hope in Benedict XVI for their support, but his opinions are not widely extended in the catholic community. Therefre I would like to mention the barriers which cause it.
