This bachelor’s thesis deals with the status of aristocracy after the year 1848 in connection to the social and economic sphere on the example of the Podstatzky-Lichtenstein family in the second half of the 19th century in Telč. The thesis observes the head of the family, count Leopold III. Podstatzky-Lichtenstein, and his approach towards the process of modernization in the management of the Telč estate. Other aspects that the work is concerned with are the impact of the family on the development of the region and whether there occurred any changes in the life style of the aristocratic family on the brink of new civil society.
