Cholinesterase inhibitors are still among the drugs recognized in the therapy of Alzheimer's disease (see Chapter 2.5.1). Physostigmine, neostigmine and rivastigmine (Fig. 9 ) are substances that contain a carbamate group in their structure. The NMDA receptor inhibitor memantine, which is sometimes administered in combination with AChE inhibitors (see Chapter 2.5.2, fig. ), is based on the structure of adamantane. As part of our rigorous work, we focused on these two structural elements and decided to prepare a series of eight aromatic acids that contain these structural elements in their molecule. In the next phase, it was planned to screen the inhibitory activity of these substances against AChE and BChE and from these results to select a suitable candidate (lead compound) for further structural modification with the aim of improving the inhibitory activity. All prepared substances were characterized using IR, nuclear and mass spectrometry.
