Thesis description
The accusative plural is a suitable category for research on the influence of Ukrainian, because Ukrainian expresses the accusative plural of masculine nouns using the form of the genitive plural. Czech does not have this property. The question therefore arises whether children whose first language is Ukrainian will produce "incorrect" accusatives with the form of the genitive from the point of view of Czech, and to what extent. The study may also consider the situation with feminine nouns, which, when animate, also exhibit gen-acc in Ukrainian (neuter nouns are irrelevant in this respect).
Data will be collected in primary schools with the aim of controlling for the child's age and length of stay in the Czech Republic. Ideally, the work will quantify the percentage of errors and will try to establish a correlation with age and/or length of stay in the Czech Republic.
