Ploštěnky patří mezi prvoústé živočichy z kmene Platyhelminthes. Jedná se o skupinu ploštěnců žijících ve vodě nebo ve vlhkém suchozemském prostředí, jež jsou většinou predátory nebo mrchožrouty, ale můžou být i parazity. Planarians belong to the phylum Platyhelminthes and are among the primitive protostomial animals. They form a group of flatworms inhabiting water or moist terrestrial environments, mostly as predators or scavengers, but they can also be parasitic.
