This thesis is focused on the construction of the image of Roma people in local TV news of Czech television public service broadcasting - Report - during the year of 2005 and 2006. In this period all relevant reports relating to Roma minority were selected and analyzed. Research is based on the theory of social construction of reality, the conception of representation and stereotype, agenda setting and the theory of news values. In the analytical part of thesis - quantitative content analysis - we focused on news values, signs of ethnocentrism, stereotypes and differences in medial presentation of the respondents in dependence on their ethnicity which are present in the reports. We tried to draw attention to the mechanism of construction of the image of Roma people in media and to some of its characteristics which can be contributing to marginalization and stigmatization of this minority, because they emphasize its otherness.
