The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and includes of three chapters. The second practical part has one chapter and deals with the characteristics of communication of children of preschool age. The theoretical part is based on study and is followed by analysis of literature. The first chapter deals with concepts such as communication, verbal and nonverbal communication, language and speech. The second chapter describes the child of preschool age, its personal development and the important role of school and family in the actual development of the child. The third chapter is dedicated to vocabulary, where are discussed the linguistic levels (especially lexical- semantic) and its division into active and passive vocabulary. The practical part presents the research, which was carried out by interview with a child of preschool age in the home environment. The aim of this research was to analyze the vocabulary of a child of preschool age, then determine the child“s ability to answer in fluent sentences, use of the most frequent parts of speech in communication and to develop the casuistry of the monitored child with a focus on personal and family medical history. The basis of the research was content analysis of transcribed audio recordings. At the end of the research are then introduced result of the practical part.
