This bachelor thesis examines the international aspect of the debate in the Senate of the Czech Republic regarding the Istanbul Convention, which took place on January 24, 2024. Through qualitative thematic analysis, the main narratives emerging in the debate, particularly lines of anti-European discourse, are explored. Arguments were categorized into pros and cons regarding the adoption of the Istanbul Convention, from which individual themes were subsequently identified. From the analysis, it was found that these themes could be unified under two overarching categories – two perspectives on Europe that shaped the discussion: on one hand, Europe as a bearer of values we wish to share, and on the other hand, Europe as a community of powers threatening the sovereignty of the Czech Republic and posing a risk to us.
