The thesis focuses on the occurrence of surnames in the
Kojetín, Přerov, and Hranice regions between 1857 and 2016. It
is based on a question about the most common surnames in each
municipality, as documented in a survey conducted in the 1950s
by the Dialectology Department of the Institute for the Czech
Language under the former Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The
motivations behind the formation of the extracted surnames have
been described. In the next part of the research, the
occurrence of surnames is verified using census records from
1857–1921. The current number of surname bearers is determined
through the kdejsme.cz website, which provides valid data for
the year 2016.
