Course objectives
After completion of this course the student will gain the knowledge in education of individuals with mild mental disabilities (intellecual disability). Furthermore will obtain information about communication and impaired communication ability. The student will acquire knowledge in: the specifics of speech ontogeny of individuals with mental disabilities, characteristic of their speech in dependence on degree, type and form of mental retardation. After completion of this course the student will be able to give details of typical abnormalities in language development of individuals with mental disabilities. The student will obtain the basics about the educational system of individuals with mild mental disabilities

  • Education of individuals with mild intellectual disability 1.Legislation related to school pupils with mild mental disabilities, Education Act, regulations. 2.Pupils with mild mental disabilities (specifics of personality, cognitive processes, variability of developmental specialities). 3.Education of individuals with mental disabilities, terminology bases. 4.System of Pedagogical-Psychological Counseling services for students with mild mental retardation (School counseling services  school counseling departments, school counseling offices). 5.Practical elementary school. Its delimitation in the educational system (specifics of training). 6.Education programs for pupils with mild mental disabilities. Framework Education Programme for Preschool Education, Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education - Annex for education of students with mild mental disabilities. 7.Pre-school education for pupils with mild mental disabilities (pupils´ integration into kindergarten, preparatory class at primary school). 8.Specially-pedagogical diagnostics of Psychopeadia with a focus on pupil with mild mental disabilities. 9.Didactic principles in the education of pupils at practical primary school. 10.Teaching methods in the education of pupils with mild mental disabilities. 11.The position of therapy in the education of pupils with mild mental disabilities. 12.Teaching forms used at Practical primary school, the specifics of classwork, the structure of preparing teachers to teaching, differentiation, cooperative teaching. 13.Teaching resources in education (textbooks, ICT, mobility aids). 14.Career counseling for pupils with mild mental retardation, the specifics of vocational integration. 15.Legislation relating to school problems of education pupils with mild mental disabilities, the Education Act, regulations. Speech therapy 1 1.Speech therapy, the conception of speech therapy, the position of speech therapy in the system of sciences. Cooperation with other disciplines. Speech therapist, speech therapy assistant. The system of providing speech therapy intervention in the Czech Republic. Valid legislation in the provision of speech therapy intervention. 2.Communication, the importance of communication in human life. Characteristics of verbal and nonverbal communication. Communication process and its course. Impaired communication ability, classification, classification of impaired communication ability. 3.Ontogeny of children´s speech, developmental pre-linguistic and linguistic stages . Psychological and social factors of speech development. Linguistic levels in ontogeny of speech. 4.The specifics of speech development of children with mental disabilties. Effect of degree, form and type of mental retardation on speech development. 5.Anatomy and physiology of speech organs (respiratory tract, phonatory, articulatory). Innervation of orofacial muscles. 6.Phonetics, the subject of phonetics research, phonetic methodology - the basic elements of spoken language, the major division in speech sounds. Sounds in the Czech language, physiological formation of vowels and consonants. 7.Disorders of speech development (impaired speech development) clasification of speech development impairments. 8.Delayed speech development, the etiology of delayed speech development. Speech therapy intervention for children with delayed speech development, the possibility of influencing the development of speech. 9.Dyslalia - etiology, symptoms, classification. Principles of accession to removing dyslalia. Course of dyslalia elimination. 10.Development of phonetic and phonological (or phonemic) level of speech of pupils with mental retardation (breathing, phonatory exercises, auditory perception and phonemic differentiation, articulatory motion, process of construction speech sounds, prosodic factors of speech, rhythm). 11.Development of lexical-semantic level in speech of mentaly retarded pupils (passive and active vocabulary). 12.Development of morphosyntactic level of speech (grammatical structure of speech, language sense). 13.Development of pragmatic language levels (request, conversation establishing and maintaining, elimination of intrusion, continuous expression, dramatization). 14.The structure and content of speech upbringing at practical elementary school.
