Course objectives
Genre Studies (Genology) or the science of literary kinds and genres is considered as a specific part of theory of literature, its roots go back to the ancient world, although the genology as an independent discipline of literary criticism emerged only at the 30th of the 20th century. The journal Zagadnienia rodzajów literackich founded in Polish Łódź at the end of 50th of 20th centure has been describing development and changes of various literary genres already fifty years. Research of the Department of Slavonic Studies (Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University) is oriented also genologically, its results are being presented in the periodical Litteraria Humanita.
