Course objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to apply knowledges and concepts concerning the development of French literature from its beginnings to the Renaissance. He will also be able to interpret and critically evaluate literary texts and documents of this period.
Syllabus
  • The stress will be put on: 1. Courtly culture: lyric and epic poetry 2. Anti-courteos literature: fable and fabliau 3. Medieval theatre 4. The Renaissance period as a new vision of the world and the man: new functions of the poetry, prose and drama

Teaching methods
Lecture: the stress will be put on the description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by concrete authors. Seminar: the stress will be put on the application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.
Assessment methods
Credit - control of read books will consist in the citic analysis of a text.
