Course objectives
The aim of the course is to learn the basic rules of translations from Czech to Serbian, new lexical items from the areas of linguistics, literature, politics, history, law, economy, natural sciences etc. At the end of the course students will - be able to demonstrate the knowledge of Serbian. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of translating. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of comparative study of Slavonic languages - be familiar with Slavonic grammar.
Syllabus
  • Texts for the course are selected from the modern Czech literature, Czech daily newspapers (articles, reviews, political commentary, essay, etc.) and internet articles. A substantial part of texts for translation exercise are chosen by students according to their interests and preferences. Every lesson contains of translation and interpretation of one of the functional style texts.

Teaching methods
Serbian: Seminars, 1½ hours per week, plus half an hour tutorials to be arranged individually with students.
Assessment methods
The course has a form of a class discussion. Maximum of 3 absence 10%, homeworks 10%, preparation of a short text for translation in the lesson 10%, translation of 3 page (5400 characters with spaces) text from Czech to Serbian language, which should be sent together with the original until the end of the semester 70%.
