Course objectives
This seminar focuses on the basic theoretical facts concerning Czech stylistics and on their practical application. A general definition of stylistics says that this discipline investigates principles on which texts are built. Another point examined by stylistics is the influence of various factors on creating texts - the degree of formality, the aim of the text, the addressee, etc. Manifestations of these factors are very important also for translators. To reach a level of adequacy in translation, fully qualified translators should be aware of stylistic values of the particular means of expres-sion with regard to both the source and target languages.
