Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to identify, distinguish and analyse specific lexical phenomena of German, to make deductions based on the analysis of particular texts.

  • German lexicology, lexicography, semiotics, semasiology, onomasiology, etymology
  • Theory of nomination
  • Paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations
  • Polysemy vs. homonymy
  • Criteria of meaning change
  • Lexical characterology of modern German
  • Social and territorial stratification of lexicon

Assessment methods
Written final test consisting of two parts: 1/ Test of theoretical knowledge 2/ Testing of practical knowledge in form of special excercises based on the topics from seminar 75% correct answers is needed to pass.
