Course objectives
The lecture offer the advanced knowledge of physical chemistry principles application to the real geological systems. After pass out the student has ability (1) to construct phase diagrams for system under study, (2) solve the type of crystallization (equilibrium, nonequilibrium), (3) estimate formation conditions (p, T, composition of parent material) and, (4) derive formation path of specific rock from original to current state
Syllabus
  • 1. Magmatic systems, magma, 2. Volatile componets, fluid exolution, 3. Crystal-melt equilibria, phase diagrams, 4. Crystallization, crystallization of real magmas, geothermomethers and geobaromethers, equilibrium estimation in melts, 5. Melt and crystals dynamics, transport, viscosity, chemical diffusion, heat transport, surface tension, crystallisation, 6. Secondary processes of crystal transformation, degasation and fragmentation of magma, 7. Kinetic path and fabric of igneous rock, crystallisation path, problems with interpretation, 8. Metamorphic processes, transformation of minerals and rocks in solid state, 9. Role of fluids, 10. Metamorphic processes rate
