Course objectives
Upon completion of the course, students can choose the formally correct prescription of drugs using the terminology of valid pharmacopoeia and the preparation of dosage forms of individually prepared and ready-made medicinal products. They should understand the principles of "pharmacological thinking" in drug selection, dosage, pharmacokinetic parameter calculations, choice and technique of administration routes. They should be proficient in the basic pharmacological profile of selected drug groups.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
- be familiar with medicinal product databases and be able to search for specific medicinal products
- distinguish between different routes of administration and dosage forms of a drug and their advantages and disadvantages
- be able to prescribe RMP and IPP
- know the basic pharmacokinetic processes and parameters and can determine the type of mechanism of action of specific drugs
- know the basic pharmacological profile of the drug groups discussed - can recognize drug-drug interactions and can evaluate its severity

Teaching methods
In the practicals, the topics discussed are practised as group and individual activities supplemented by the teacher's explanations and discussions. An essential part of the teaching is the students' home preparation for individual lessons and self-study. Students can check their readiness for the lesson by taking the ROPOT before each class. Study materials are available in the form of interactive syllabi.
Assessment methods
The participation in practicals is obligatory and registered. Students can miss one class without excuse. To get credits a students have to pass 3 written tests:

Prescription test
a) 1 RMP and 1 IPP are prescribed, the main indication or pharmacotherapeutic group is stated together with basic data of the patient significant for correct drug selection
time limit is 30 minutes
test can be repeated twice

Two multiple-choice tests
15 questions/2 points each, number of correct answers indicated, minimal score to pass 12 points and 28 from both tests
one of the tests can be repeated once

The credits will be given to students who passed the prescription test and scored at least 6 points from each of the multiple-choice tests, and their total score from these tests is higher than 28.
Náhradní absolvování
The course can be attended online. Online participation is allowed for students on Erasmus or for students who cannot attend the lesson because of health reasons. The Teams connection is provided at the time of scheduled class. To get the credits student must pass all required tests.
