- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to enable students to get deeper knowledge of Latin, focusing on the ability of interpreting Latin legal ictions, sayings and texts.
- Syllabus
- 1. Theory of translating latin texts to Czech. Outline of main latin sources of law. 2. Outline of hypotactic complex sentences: Adverbial clauses. Translation of legal definitions. 3. Outline of hypotactic complex sentences: Relative and content clauses. Forms of perfect stem. 4. Rhetorical instruments in political and judicial statements. Infinitives. 5. Other rhetorical instruments. Video and analysis. 6. Stem of „supinum“. “Participium perfect“ passive in a construction of “ablative absolute“. 7. Passive system of stem „supinum“. Translation. 8. Construction of accusative und nominative and infinitive. Verbs iubeo and veto. Translation. 9. Case syntax 10. Expressing a will, necessity, and obligation – summary. Translation of middle aged texts. 11. Fractions from Leges XII tabularum. 12. Derivations of phonetics, morphology and lexis in late latin legal texts.

- Requirements: Active participation in class discussion, final written credit test - the translation of a coherent Latin text using the dictionnary (Students have to score more than 50%) and oral exam.
