Course objectives
Laboratory course of physical chemistry is composed from 12 to 13 exercises.
The main objectives of the course are the following: ionic equilibria, electrochemical cells, chemical kinetics, phase equilibria, UV-VIS spectroscopy, pH and conductivity measurements, refractometry and molecular weight determination.
Syllabus
  • Exercise list: Determination of molar weight of naphthalene; Ethanol- water phase diagram assessment; Liquid - liquid phase diagram assessment; Extraction equilibrium in system methylene blue – water –amylalcohol; Viscosities of solutions of polymers; Potentiometry measurement of acid constant; Concentration dependence of molar conductivity of weak and hard electrolytes; Dissociation constant determination of acid-base indicator; Thermodynamics of Galvanic cell; Tenside surfactants detergents; Determination of ion transport number; Photometric study of reaction kinetics; Refraction and permittivity of liquids; Activity coefficient determination of HCl; Temperature dependency of oxygen concentration in water

Assessment methods
The student makes a preparedness test before each laboratory exercise. The students work on laboratory tasks individually and after that make protocol involving the results. Students attain credit if they make all planed exercises and deliver all protocols.
