Course objectives
At the end of the course student should be able to:
analyze the items of selected parts of grammar school physics;
discuss critically frequent textbook treatments;
suggest and judge alternative treatments.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic requirements of a textbook (correctness, adequacy in precision and completeness, appropriateness, understandability, clearness, proportionality; technical quality)
  • 2. Role of textbook in grammar-school tuition of physics (complement, guidance, support, standard; individual study; critical analysis of a text)
  • 3. Mechanics (the history of the discipline, its contemporary state, the development of its textbook presentation, the selection and the sequencing of items, analysis of the physical and pedagogical defects, alternative treatments).
  • 4. Molecular and Thermal Physics (the history of the discipline, its contemporary state, the development of its textbook presentation, the selection and the sequencing of items, analysis of the physical and pedagogical defects, alternative treatments).
  • 5. Mechanical Vibrations and Waves (the history of the discipline, its contemporary state, the development of its textbook presentation, the selection and the sequencing of items, analysis of the physical and pedagogical defects, alternative treatments).

Teaching methods
Lecture with a seminar including discussions and individual students´ performances.
Assessment methods
Colloquium consists in a wide discussion on subject matter.
