Course objectives
At the end of this subject that follows up with the linguistic disciplines Fundaments of the language and linguistics and Phonetics and phonology of the Czech language, students will be able to understand and recognise system of the contemporary Czech language deeply. The students will elaborate and intensificate their knowledge of graphical, phonetic and morphological language. The student will understand to the special language phenomena in the language plans and will be able to recognize some frequent mistakes and dissimilarities in the orthography and grammar.
Syllabus
  • 1. Language, the system of language. Language plans, linguistic disciplines. 2. Graphical plan of the contemporary Czech. Some changes of it in the past and, in the last century and now. 3. Relations between the graphical and phonetic plan and their development. The basic phenomena of the contemporary Czech orthography in the texts. 4. Orthographically analysis of the text. Corrections of the texts. Ability to explain the orthographically phenomena, elimination of the mistakes. Causes of the frequent mistakes. 5. Fundamental morphological phenomena. Difficult morphological phenomena as a results of the language development. 6. Connection of the morphology and the orthography. Difficulties in the morphological orthography. The causes of the most frequent mistakes and how to correct then. 7. Some most discussed orthographically and morphological problems and mistakes in school. Some most frequent mistakes in the official written texts.

Teaching methods
A seminar, active analytical students work in the analysis of texts, active synthetic students work in the interpretation of linguistic phenomena, discussion about the professional course issues.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 4 tests: ortography - 80 phenomena to be tested and 20 theoretical questions according to the topics in the syllabus. The students must gain 70 %.
