Course objectives
By the end of this subject the student will be able to understand the sound structure of the speech, the comparison of the spoken and the written texts. It deals with the orthographic problems, too, with the phonetic transcription, with the principles of the orthography and with the orthoepie, with classification of the vowels and consonants. The students recognise the structure of the syllable, segmentation of the continuous speech and pronunciation of home and loan words. The variants of the phonemes in the continuous speech, sound structure of the Czech and its graphical registration is important, too.

  • 1. Phonetics and phonology. 2. Relation between phonetics and phonology. 3. Phonetic and phonologic transcription. 4. Classification of the phones and phonemes in Czech. 5. Sound means in of continuous speech. 6. Literary pronunciation of home and loan words. 7. Sound structure of the Czech and its graphical registration. 8. Spelling czech rules.

Teaching methods
The type of tuition is a seminar.The attendance is compulsory.
Assessment methods
The subject is concluded by an exam. The exam will have oral and written part. During the semester the students are expected to pass an ortography tests, students are expected to know the systeme of czech vowels and consonants, phonetic transcribtion and clasification of czech sounds.
