Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand basic functions of leisure time, process of upbringing in leisure time, modern conceptions and educational possibilities in leisure time. By means of special tasks student will be familiarized by practical upbringing in leisure time (the conception of leisure time equipment, planning of stay for children).
Syllabus
  • 1. Man, society and upbringing in leisure time. Function of leisure time. 2. Typology of leisure time activities in connection with the age, gender, education, locality and other variables. 3. Activities in leisure time, content, classification, importance, methods and forms of work. Subject, function, principles and methods of upbringing in leisure time. 4. Family and upbringing of children in leisure time. 5. Personality of teacher in leisure time, group leading styles, climate in a group. Use of pedagogical diagnostics during upbringing in leisure time. 6. Historical views of upbringing in leisure time, educational conceptions realized in leisure time (e.g. Jesuits, J. J. Pestalozzi, G. Bosco). 7. Pedagogical system of E. T. Seaton, R. S. S. Baden Powella, K. Hahna, A. B. Svojsíka, Jaroslava Foglara (overall evaluation of their pedagogical contribution). Analysis of educational principles, games, conception of upbringing, values and ideals in relation to today youth. Analyse educational system of the authors on the basis of study hour (reading) of their works. Knowledge of at least five works is expected. 8. Rise and importance of organised activity in leisure time (YMCA, YWCA, Sokol-Falcon, skauting-scouting, Liga lesní moudrosti-League of forest wisdom, Česká tábornická unie-Czech camper union) 9. Definition of games and their attributes, educational importance of games. Why are (children) people playing? Theory of game, their division. History of games, transformation of functions, motives, positions and aim of games in evolutional periods of pedagogy. 10. Game in pedagogical conceptions of some representatives (Platon, Aristoteles, Quintiliánus, J. A. Komenský atd.) 11. How to create and change games. Games developing intellectual operations, especially divergent and lateral thinking. Games as an instrument and presumption of creative life. Game as a way to solution of life problems. Danger of gambling, rise of dependence and contemporary situation in the Czech Republic, possible solutions of the problem. Game as an important way to limit children criminality and solving anti-social problems of youth. 12. Long-term games (e. g. Whole-camp, whole year) in action with stable colleagues. Work with literature and their transformation to motivational skeleton of games. Game in global upbringing, so-called simulation and ecological games, upbringing to sustainable life, games as a way to understand system relations in nature and the whole world. 13. Associations and organisations taking care of upbringing in leisure time in the Czech Rep. Brief historical survey and evaluation of organized activities after 1948. 14. A survey of associations and organisations taking care of upbringing in leisure time in chosen European countries. 15. Preparation and realization of actions (upbringing, camps etd.). Ensuring of action in various areas: educational, personal, economical, health, technical etc. 16. Teacher (?) as an organizer, chronology of whole action preparation, evaluation, feed back, promoting in the media. 17. Legal enactments, notices and norms for work with children and youth and holding various actions. Security prescripts. Hygienic directives. Forest law etd. 18. K. Hahn and the pedagogy of experience, conception of experince therapy. 19. . The importance of experience for upbringing in leisure time. Emotional passing in the point of view of ontogeny, subjective and objective danger in experience education, experience therapy, importance for primary social prevention. 20. Leisure time activities and prevention of socially-pathological phenomena (effects).
