Course objectives
The aim of the practical course of general microbiology are basic methods used in microbiological laboratory (methods of sterile inoculation and cultivation, slides preparation and microscopic examination of microorganisms, determination of the number of bacteria in different samples, methods of work with bacteriophage, yeasts and microscopic fungy).
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction, safety in microbiological laboratory 2. Media for cultivation and their preparation 3. Isolation, inoculation and cultivation of Microorganisms 4. Microscopic examination of bacteria (slides preparation, Gram - staining, microscopy and image acquisition 5. Determination of number of bacteria by cultivation method 6. Bacteria in water - basic microbiological water analysis 7. Determination of the concentration of antibiotics by microbiological methods. Determination of susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics 8. Identification of bacteria - the use of biochemical tests and standardized Microsystems 9. Determination of the number of phage particles in lysate of bacterial cells 10. Yeasts, test of vitality 11. Microorganisms in soil. Inoculation of microscopic fungi. 12. Isolation and microscopic examination of bacteria from soil (cellulolytic bacteria, Azotobacter sp., Clostridium sp.), negativ - staining, capsule - staining. Microscopic examination of endospores. 13. Microscopic fungi. 14. Protocols, test and unknown strain microscopic examination.
