Prerequisites
Upper-intermediate language skills in English, ability to actively participate in class discussions and basic experience in academic writing.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to expose students to typical characteristics and structure of English academic writing, namely scientific articles and dissertations.
Syllabus
  • Through class discussion and videoconferencing connections with experts, the students will practice the following aspects of English academic writing: 1. general characteristics and types of writing, 2. complex structure of academic writing, 3. academic writing style, 4. paragraph, its composition, length and cohesion, 5. academic text types (definitions, examples, classification, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect), 6. plagiarism and referencing, quoting, paraphrasing and summarising.
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Výuka probíhá v jazykového studovně RMU blokově, v době od 9 do 16 hodin ve dnech 5. 10., 26. 10., 16. 11. 2007.
