Course objectives
This course provides a practical overview of teaching English to children with specific learning disabilities. Students completing the course will have an understanding of theory and methods that will enhance their teaching with this population of learners and be able to create and adapt materials for the inclusive classroom.
Syllabus
  • The syllabus includes:
  • terms and vocabulary,
  • overview of how SLD is understood in the EU and US,
  • direct instruction,
  • multisensory instruction,
  • auditory discrimination,
  • parent-teacher communication,
  • accommodations and modifications,
  • phonics,
  • listening,
  • using questions in the classroom.

Assessment methods
The course requires ability to actively participate in English. Requirements for the course include completing readings, participating on an online forum, giving a presentation and turning in a paper on a designated topic.
