Course objectives
This is an ABC Chinese course for beginners, including introduction of phonetics and daily expressions. After taking this class, learners can have a basic understanding of Mandarin Chinese and make basic conversations of daily living such as exchanging personal information, talking about daily arrangements and food, asking about price, location and time, talking about weather and their hobbys, etc. Selected topics and situations come from real life scenarios and can be used for everyday communications, so students can speak and use what they learnt from day 1.
Teaching methods
In order to stimulate the learners’ interests, this is an elementary course that will mostly use pinyin to make it easier to follow and complete. For the one who is interested in learning Chinese characters, I will select five basic characters form HSK level 1 for every class, but it won't be tested during the final exam. We will also learn two short chinese songs during the semester just for fun.
All texts, homework including video links will be prepared and upload to the system a week before the class. Student can download and print them for preview.
