Course objectives
Management (PHMANA) The objective of the lectures is to present the principal ideas concerning management. Basic concepts are defined, historical development of management in the context of development of economic, social and political conditions is presented and management is incorporated into the system of relevant scientific disciplines. The lectures also survey the knowledge of work organization of the manager, techniques of bargaining and negotiations. A vital part of the subject matter is formed by organising and planning, decision making process, influencing and checking. Last but not least, the application of the system approach to analysis and designing information and management systems is exploited. The aim of the seminars is to develop the skills and habits necessary for practical managerial work. The seminar activities are carried out in the form of a managerial game simulating activities of the top management in large joint-stock companies. In addition to practising and integrating the topics presented in lectures, the game plays the same role in case of other subjects, especially microeconomics, law, psychology, sociology, business economy, corporate finance, accounting, marketing and personnel management. Credit requirements: active participation in seminars, passing score in the tests, elaboration of seminar works. Examination: oral, marks take into account the results achieved in the seminars.
