Course objectives
Social Dimensions of Economy (PVSDIE) The course is based on the knowledge gained in the study of fundamentals of economics and Sociology for Economists. The main aim is to enable students to understand the present relation between development of economy and society. The interpretation of this relation is carried out by analysing cultural, moral, power, organisational and informational conditional character of economic behaviour in manufacturing, exchange, and consumption processes. This subject matter belongs to an important part of education in this field, which should develop awareness of social context and responsibility for his/her work. It is the knowledge area, which is viewed differently in various social and economic theories. For this reason students are presented with the whole spectrum of opinions. Students are taught the following topics: description of economy as a social institution; limits of rational behaviour and decision-making in the economic life; relationship between science, technology and economic production; types of social organization in the manufacturing process; types of economic exchange; hierarchy of power and market asymmetry; economic development and value changes in contemporary society; culture of economic organisations in connection with performance; development of human capital and professional qualification; economic growth and changes in individual's life style; technology in everyday life. The course is freely continued by Fundamentals of Social Policy, which explores the social risks and problems arising as a result of contradictory economic, social and cultural development in modern society. Credit requirements: seminar paper. Examination: basic knowledge test, oral examination.
