Course objectives
The course is oriented on explanation of common policies of the EU, predominantly on business, agricultural, transport and currency policies. Coordinated policies (which have common community basis, but large authorities remain on national level) are presented consequently. Attention is also paid to implementation of these policies in the Czech Republic and their impacts on its further economic development including regional development.
Syllabus
  • The course is divided into ten thematic parts. The Czech part includes themes 1 – 8, the French part includes themes 9 – 10.
  • 1. Common importance and position of common and community EU policies, common business policy - presentation in the form of an introductory summary of relevant policies, followed by a lecture on a given policy joined with a seminar on current questions of its application.
  • 2. Common transport and currency policies – presentation in the form of a lecture (supplemented by information about current and perspective impacts of the mentioned policies on the Czech Republic) with a following discussion supported by self-study.
  • 3. Common agricultural policy – presentation in the form of a lecture (supplemented by information about impacts of the mentioned policy on the Czech Republic) with a following discussion supported by self-study.
  • 4. Single internal market (free movement of persons, goods, services and capital) – presentation in the form of a concentrated summary of main questions with a seminar on selected current questions.
  • 5. Environmental policy – presentation in the form of a lecture followed by a discussion supported by self-study of selected questions.
  • 6. Energy and research policies – presentation in the form of a lecture followed by a discussion supported by self-study of selected questions
  • 7. Structural policy and protection of consumers – presentation in the form of a lecture with a seminar on selected questions supported by previous study and/or self-study of selected questions.
  • 8. Collaboration in the fields of foreign and security policies and crime affairs – presentation in the form of a lecture followed by a closing discussion.
  • 9. EU law referring to public health – basic compendium of community law concerning public health, global strategy in the area of public health, need of integration of public health requirements into community policies.
  • 10. Regional policy of the EU – introduction, structural funds and other tools of cohesion, regional policy in the period 2007 – 2013.
