Course objectives
The goal of the course is to familiarize students with the basic issues and its terminology. Students will be grounded in both the regulations playing a decisive role in the area of the nonprofit sector and the current problems encountered in practice. The course also aims to motivate and lead students to apply an active approach in the process of judging and evaluating concrete legal phenomena and to raise their legal awareness. It will equip students with knowledge which they will later be able to use in their respective legal professions.
Syllabus
  • Tutorial No. 1
  • The general introduction of the term of legal entity, its categorization with a special emphasis put on the legal entity classification (by its purpose and method of creation). Private legal questions related to the right to associate, with a special emphasis laid on the legal status of associations (unincorporated associations).
  • Tutorial No. 2
  • The basics of the foundation law, legal status of foundations and endowment funds in the historical context, current issues. The legal status of benevolent societies.
  • Tutorial No. 3
  • The introduction to the contract law playing a decisive role in the life of nonprofit organizations. Relevant issues, case studies, discussion.

Assessment methods
The oral part of exam carried out as a discussion of a chosen nonprofit organizations topic.
"Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams (credit tests) will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam (credit test) by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination."
