Course objectives
The course aims at discussing advanced topics in the field of organizational behavior: organizational learning and change management. The course builds upon the basic knowledge in the field of management, i.e. strategy, organization, human resource management. After completing the course, students are able to contribute to the theoretical discussion in the field and to derive practical insightes for their business career as leaders, consultants, and trainers in the so called society 4.0. In particular, students gain knowledge to analyze, to design and to gather change and learning processes in organizations to achieve strategic objectives.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students are able to:
(1) introduce novelties in organizations,
(2) exploit existing capabilities for remaining successful in current markets, and
(3) facilitate exploration to develop new capabilities to grasp future opportunities.
Syllabus
  • The folowing topics are adresssed in particular:
  • (1) microfoundations of organization capabilities as the origin of competetive advantage
  • (2) inertia to adapt on individual, group, and organizational level, and strategic inertia
  • (3) managing change in the different levels
  • (4) resistance to change and strategies to overcome resistence
  • (5) change managament approaches: business process reengineering, organizational development, post-merger integration, technological change, team development
  • (6) developing change architectures
